A pesar de todo

A pesar de todo (Despite Everything) is a film that came out on Netflix in 2019. It tells the story of 4 sisters who learn at the reading of their mother’s will, that their father is not their biological father. In fact, they were each conceived by a different man and in order to get their part of the inheritance, they have to work together to find out who each of their fathers are. It’s a pretty crazy story! I have been meaning to watch this for a while because the four protagonists are very famous Spanish actresses, and I found the premise of the story very interesting.

These four women lead very different lives, living all around the globe, yet their mother’s death and secret confession beyond the grave brings them closer together as they must run all over Madrid in search of their fathers. Along the way, they come to other discoveries, too, about themselves and what’s important in life.

This movie is quite short (under 1 hour 20 minutes) and although the premise is a bit crazy, it has a lot of very funny and yet touching scenes. To me, it was a feel-good movie, particularly the end. It’s available on Netflix and you can download it to watch at any time. As it’s mostly set in Spain, you will hear the accent and many Spanish expressions. Also, if you like these actresses, you can find them in TV shows such as Las chicas de cable (Cable Girls), Gran Hotel (Grand Hotel), El internado (The Boarding School) and Casa de Papel (Money Heist).
