This is an Atres series that came out on Netflix about two years ago. The show is centred around Alba, a young student who returns home in Alicante for the summer and is drugged and gang raped by her boyfriend’s close friends - only they don’t know that until it’s too late.
As the series progresses, we see the ramifications of this heinous crime and how Alba seeks justice for what was done to her. And as always, the story is much more complicated than that. We see how in a small community, how everyone knows each other and the connections they have, particularly the family of two of Alba’s perpetrators, who happen to be the richest family. Again, we see how far money and power can go in today’s society, especially when it comes to trying to cover up a crime.
While the topic of gang rape is very sensitive, I did find this series worth watching. However, I will say, there are parts that I thought were quite unrealistic and seemed to be a bit too drawn out. I don’t know if there will be a second season, but with how the first season ended, I don’t see it being renewed. But if it is, I will definitely watch it. As far as audiences go, I do think it’s too mature for high school students, although the message of being careful and what consent actually means are topics that all young people need to discuss and understand. If you do watch it, please be aware that in each episode there are a number of triggering scenes that may be difficult to watch, particularly if you or someone you know has been in a similar situation. This show is available on Netflix and has subtitles both in Spanish and in English.
